Research, coverage & before you go

27 listings across 11 cities/towns and 8 states/UTs. This is a researched starting directory, not a complete India-wide inventory. Missing results mean we have no listing here—not that help is unavailable.

Sources reviewed: 28 September 2026. Government directories and operator pages are linked on every listing. “Source confirms free service” describes published information, not a phone call, site inspection or confirmation that it is open today. Some undated pages and programme policies may be older.

Ask before travelling: Is the service running today? Where is the entrance or serving point? Who can access it? Is there a fee, deposit or bedding charge? What documents, timings and stay limits apply? Is there step-free access or a suitable family/women’s space?

Free food is not free accommodation. Subsidised canteens, paid rooms and donation-dependent bedding are not labelled as unconditional zero-cost stays. Religious meal services and municipal shelters have different access rules. These are support services, not guaranteed long-term housing.

Delhi shelter help: 14461 (official control room). Chennai: official shelter contacts. Published phone numbers have not been called.

Google supplies the embedded maps and may receive your IP address. The locator does not request or store your location. Listings are manually researched and are not automatically updated.

01 / YOUR EVERYDAY FIELD GUIDE

What do you need?

Choose a chapter. Find a first step.

02 / MAKE THE TRANSITION

Build a life that can last.

Go at your own pace. Keep what keeps you safe.

03 / A LITTLE REALITY

Less dependence.
Not less dignity.

Can you live your entire life without money?

Some people meet many needs without paying directly. But housing, healthcare, land, utilities, and care still use resources—and someone usually carries the cost. A completely money-free life is not a reliable option for everyone.

The goal here is more choice: reduce expenses where you can, accept support without shame, and keep a way to cover needs that sharing cannot meet. Earning money when you need it is not a failure.
